NEWS: Saddened by rally
As a Latino and an Angeleno, I am saddened by the rally held in support of LAUSD Superintendent Ruben Zacarias ("Demonstrators back Zacarias," Oct. 23).
Zacarias' poor job performance speaks for itself. The fact that Zacarias is Latino has nothing to do with the school board's recent actions. But that doesn't stop Latino politicians and groups like the Parent Community Coalition from implying that ethnicity was a factor.
The bottom line is Zacarias was doing a bad job. He is no role model for the Latino community. The superintendent needs to be held accountable, and by doing so, the school board is respecting not only the Latino community and the taxpayers, but also LAUSD's students who, in the end, are the ones who count most.
