Once again, the US Census is filled with questions that invade everyone's privacy. Only the first one is required by the Constitution: "How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2000?"
But why does the government need to know your income? Who you're living with? How old you are? What race you are? Such questions are used by the Republicans and Democrats to decide who gets $180 billion in pork barrel tax dollars, based on race or ethnicity or whatever.
The Census Bureau urges you to fill out the form so that your community receives its "fair share." Do you believe you have ever received your "fair share"?
There is an alternative. The leading Libertarian candidate for president, Harry Browne, asks: "Would you give up your favorite federal programs if it meant you never had to pay income tax again? And your children would never have to pay income tax? And your grandchildren?"
I urge you to say yes, and answer only the first question on the US Census.
